Happy New Year. This is the January 2011 issue of T-Engine Forum’s monthly e-mail magazine.
New Year’s greeting
In 2011, T-Kernel2.0 will be released to the public. T-Kernel has been used by many people around the world since it was released in 2002. Thanks to this upgrade, it can support the realization of more detailed real-time control and large amounts of storage in addition to the latest CPU technologies.
T-Kernel2.0 aims at realization of so-called “one-stop service” as integrated development package as well as functional improvement. This makes open development tool such as network-related software, GUI construction tool and Eclipse-based development environment as well as OS available at once, and improves the convenience for embedded systems development engineers very much.
Moreover, T-Kernel2.0 will be distributed under a new license agreement, T-License2.0 which stipulates that modified or improved source code can be redistributed, still keeping the advantage of T-License that it is not required to release the source code unchanged. With this distribution, a traceability mechanism for source code will be incorporated utilizing the know-how on traceability that has been developed by Ubiquitous ID Center.
Check out the upcoming latest version of “Evolving TRON,” T-Kernel2.0.
Ubiquitous ID technologies including ucode have progressed in various areas such as kokosil which provides location information and monosil which provides information on objects. ucode has been drawing attention abroad including China, Taiwan and EU countries as well as Japan. We are expecting to introduce specific usage examples using ucode in these countries this year.
Thank you for your continuing support of TRON project and best wishes to all of you for the new year.

Let’s Try
TFY2010 “Tokyo Ubiquitous Technology Project” is conducted in Ginza.
FY2010 feasibility study experiment for the “Tokyo Ubiquitous Technology Project” which has been implemented by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism is conducted in Ginza. Ubiquitous Communicator (UC) automatically reads the ucodes installed in the streets and buildings along Ginza Avenue and Harumi Avenue, and provides the information on stores, tourist spots and the history of Ginza with audio and images in Chinese (Chinese and simplified Chinese ), English, Japanese and Korean. UC is lent for free by reserving at the website of Tokyo Ubiquitous Technology Project or showing your ID at the dedicated lending counter on site. For details, please visit the following website:

Event
TRONSHOW2011 was held successfully.
TRONSHOW2011 was held at Tokyo Midtown in Roppongi, Tokyo from Wednesday, December 15 to Friday, December 17, 2010. The theme of this exhibition is “Evolving TRON.” In addition to the keynote speech given by Chair Sakamura, many more cosmopolitan seminars than ever were held such as international session by Gerald Santucci who is the head of UNIT “Enterprise Networking and RFID” at EC and others and special session by Mr. Stephen Dukes of IEEE Consumer Electronics Society. Also, displays by exhibitors were shown at “Next Generation Real-time System Exhibition” which introduces embedded systems technologies focusing on T-Engine and T-Kernel, and at “Ubiquitous Computing Exhibition” which introduced tags such as RFID tags and acoustic tags that were exhibited for the first time, reader/writer and application services such as digital signage using these tags. TEPS2011 was held.
TRON Enableware Symposium 2011 (TEPS2011) was held on Saturday, December 18, 2010 in Tokyo Midtown (Roppongi, Tokyo). This year’s theme was “Barrier-free 2.0.” Participants discussed a plan to establish and operate free mobility assistance system by many people including system developers, local residents, users, etc. as well as the government. In the panel discussions after the keynote speech given by Chair Sakamura, a lively debate was held by Kenji Suzuki, Senior Planning Officer, Director-General for Policy Planning, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, Eiko Tatematsu, Professor, School of Social Welfare, Tokyo University and Graduate School of Social Welfare and Noboru Koshizuka, Professor, Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Information Studies, the University of Tokyo. As a new approach, those present at the symposium and those who viewed the video distribution exchanged their views through Twitter in real time, etc.
