TRONSHOW2004 Ended Successfully.

The 20th TRON Project Symposium, "TRONHSHOW 2004", was held under the auspices of T-Engine Forum and TRON Association at Tokyo International Forum from December 11th to December 13th, 2003 and attracted many spectators including foreign visitors. This year's exhibition was the biggest scale ever for TRONSHOW in the past, and conducted under the theme, "Ubiquitous Computing Meets TRON". "The Ubiquitous Computing Showcase", which was shown by the exhibition host and designed to make people experience what it would be like to live in the ubiquitous computing society, received favourable comments from those who tried it.

Two vendors nominated as Ubiquitous ID Center-specified barcode suppliers

Ubiquitous ID Center nominated two companies - SATO CORPORATION and TOPPAN PRINTING LTD. - as vendors to issue bar codes in compliance with the specifications of ucodes. With the addition of two companies to the list of companies that produce tags based on ucode specification, it is expected that research and development, and demonstration experiments performed by Ubiquitous ID Center will make further progress.

"UC-Phone" - PHS mobile phone with ucode resolution function announced.

YRP Ubiquitous Networking Laboratory announced that the successful development of UC-PHONE - a PHS mobile phone that reads electronic tags and barcodes attached to physical objects and displays information about the Ids that have been read. Small scanner for "Tjunction" - a ultra-tiny IC tag developed by Toppan Printing Ltd. - is used for UC-Phones.

T-Engine Forum Making Successful Presentation for Embedded Technology 2003

T-Engine Forum made a very successful presentation at Embedded Technology 2003, held at Pacifico Yokohama, from November 12th-14th, 2003 (hosted by Nippon System House Association), introduced the characteristics of T-Engine and the activities of Ubiquitous ID Center, and drew huge audience. Ken Sakamura, chairman of T-Engine Forum, also made a special lecture, T-Engine Special Track, for the same technology exhibition during its open period, and attracted many audiences to his lecture.

T-Engine Development Center Opens in Singapore

T-Engine Forum, Nanyang Technological University (NTU) of Singapore, Economic Development Board (EDB: Singapore Government Economic Development Board), and Renesas System Solutions Asia Pte. Ltd. held a press conference in Singapore on October 30th, and announced that it will set up T-Engine Application Development Center in Singapore. This center will provide support for the T-Engine users including training. In conjunction with the T-Engine Application Development Center, NTU's Center for High Performance Embedded Systems (CHiPES)performs the research and development using T-Engine products. The first overseas T-Engine Development Center has become a reality by positive assistance measures provided by EDB, which actively promotes the progress of the IT technology in Singapore. It is now expected to turn into a hub for promoting T-Engine in Asia.

Portable Ubiquitous Communicator development succeeds

YRP Ubiquitous Networking Laboratory and T-Engine Forum announced the successful development of portable Ubiquitous Communicator (UC for short). A UC supports several types of communication protocols, and also reads ucodes, the Ubiquitous ID Center's standardized code used for IC tags UC enables us to implement advanced applications using information on physical objects to which the tags are attached. UC is expected to be used as communication tools not only between physical objects but also between the environment and people.

Microsoft participates in T-Engine Forum

Microsoft Corp. announced that it will become a member of T-Engine Forum as an executive member. It plans to develop the environment to operate Microsoft's platform for information home electronics appliances, namely Windows CE .NET, on the T-Engine platform. The prototype based on this architecture will be demonstrated at TRONSHOW2004 in December.

"T-Kernel Standard Handbook" is published

The official specification of T-Kernel, standard real-time OS for T-Engine, will be released as a book, available at bookstores throughout Japan. The book, "T-Kernel Standard Handbook", is published by Personal Media Corp. with English specifications for T-Kernel and T-Monitor on the appendix CD.

A big crowd at the Ubiquitous ID center's booth at WPC EXPO 2003

Ubiquitous ID center was an exhibitor at WPC EXPO 2003 (organized by Nikkei Business Publications, Inc.) held at Makuhari Messe from 17th through 20th, September, 2003 and welcomed a large number of visitors. The features and usefulness of ubiquitous ID, etc. were presented at this year's exhibition jointly with NTT Data Corporation, Sato Corporation, Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd, Toppan Printing Co., Ltd, Personal Media Corp and Renesas Technology Corporation.

MMU-supporting advanced ICE for T-Engine sales starts

Personal Media Corp. announced the sales of an ICE targeted to T-Engine as part of the T-Engine development kits. The ICE is one of the "PARTNER series" products developed by Kyoto Micro Computer Co., Ltd., and is the first ICE that supports MMU of T-Engine CPUs.

Connection test with a ubiquitous ID resolution server succeeds

Nihon Unisys, Ltd. and Ubiquitous ID center announced the success of the connection test regarding a ubiquitous ID resolution server. The ubiquitous ID resolution server that was used for the test had been developed by Nihon Unisys, Ltd. based on the ubiquitous ID solution specification developed at the Ubiquitous ID center.

Dual-band capable original RFID chip developed

Toppan Printing Co., Ltd. has developed "T-Junction" (provisional name), a dual-band (800 to 950 MHz and 2.45 GHz) capable RFID chip, and will start volume production in December this year. The chip has been certified as satisfying Ubiquitous ID Center Standardized ID tag requirements. Toppan has also announced that it will support all services ranging from supply of chips to peripheral equipment.

Prof. Sakamura to give lecture in OS Forum

Prof. Sakamura, chairman of the T-Engine Forum, will give a lecture on "TRON, an open architecture that leads the ubiquitous computing age" in the OS Forum entitled "Future of operating systems--trend toward open architectures." The OS Forum will be held on August 29 at Keidanren Kaikan under the sponsorship of the ITU Association of Japan. There will also be lectures on operating systems in general, Windows, UNIX and Linux.

T-Engine Forum to Participate in ESEC

The T-Engine Forum will participate in the 6th Embedded Systems Expo & Conference in Tokyo (ESEC) to be held from July 9 (Wed.) to 11 (Fri.), 2003 at Tokyo Big Sight to make a presentation on T-Engine forum activities and achievements.
