The T-Engine Forum Exhibited at the ETC KOREA 2005

The T-Engine Forum had an exhibit at the ETC KOREA 2005 (Embedded Technology Conference & Exhibition), which was held in Seoul, South Korea from Wednesday, May 18th through Saturday, May 21st. At this event, a variety of T-Engine products, middleware, T-Engine appliances, the Ubiquitous Communicator (UC) and others were exhibited. Since embedded system-related industries have currently been growing rapidly in South Korea, a large number of visitors, including VIPs, came to the Forum's booth. In addition, T-Engine-related seminars were held during the EXPO and drew audiences that exceeded capacity.

The Start of the "Asakusa Ubiquitous Sightseeing Guide" Feasibility Study Experiments

Feasibility study experiments of the sightseeing guide, "Asakusa Ubiquitous Sightseeing Guide" utilizing Ubiquitous ID Technology, will be conducted from April 18th to the end of May. Prior to the start of these experiments on Tuesday, April 12, 2005, an opening event and public demonstrations were held in the Kinryusan Sensoji Temple and on Nakamise shopping street with Mr. Kitagawa, Minister of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Mr. Hamauzu, Vice-governor of Tokyo and Chairman Sakamura in attendance. In Asakusa, ucode tags and infrared markers have been set up in 80 places now (and more will be set up in the future) and by holding a Ubiquitous Communicator (UC) over the ucode tags and infrared markers, information on facilities, etc. in the form of text, photographs or moving images will become available.
Acquired information can be displayed in English, Chinese and Korean as well as in Japanese. These experiments will be conducted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Sightseeing Guide System Promotion Committee Asakusa District Chapter, and YRP Ubiquitous Networking Laboratory as major supporters. UCs will be lent to guests from collaborating hotels in the Asakusa district.

The Start of Feasibility Study Experiments for the "Yuki-Navi Aomori Project-Spring" in Aomori

In anticipation of the "Yuki-Navi Aomori Project", which will be carried out by Aomori Prefecture and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport during the winter of 2005, the "Spring Feasibility Study Experiments for the Yuki-Navi Aomori Project" began in Aomori city on Monday, April 11, 2005. In these feasibility study experiments, tests will be conducted on Mt. Hakkoda in order to verify electronic tag operations in winter environments. A ceremony was held on the same day in order to announce this project to the citizens. In the morning, Chairman Sakamura provided guidance on the verification test site on Mt. Hakkoda and then, a Free Mobility Assistance demonstration utilizing location information systems was held at the Yanagimachi intersection in the city. The demonstrations ended successfully with Mr. Mimura, the governor of Aomori prefecture, participating. The verification tests for the spring feasibility experiments will be conducted until the middle of May, 2005 and the full-scale experiment will start in the autumn of 2005.

In Sapporo, the "Ubiquitous Computing Symposium in Hokkaido" was held and "Ubiquitous Computing Feasibility Study Experiments at Akarenga" started

On January 25th, 2005, the "Ubiquitous Computing Symposium in Hokkaido" was held in Sapporo, Hokkaido. The keynote speech, given by Chairman Sakamura, was well received by the capacity audience. Ubiquitous Computing Feasibility Study Experiments also started at the "Akarenga ("Red Brick", the former Hokkaido Government Building)", and at the opening ceremony, Chairman Sakamura and some guests cut the ceremonial opening ribbon. The experiments will be conducted until March 11th, jointly by Hokkaido Prefecture Government , the Hokkaido Regional Development Bureau of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transportation, Sapporo City and the Independent Administrative Institution Civil Engineering Research Institute of Hokkaido. The main purpose is to conduct research on cold resistance of devices in cold, snowy regions. In addition, during this period, Ubiquitous Communicators will be lent to tourists and citizens at the "Akarenga" to enable them to experience a ubiquitous computing society and to ask their opinions on it.
